ISSUES TO IMPROVE DALLAS: When respondents were asked to rank issues to improve Dallas, the following issues were given highest priority: recovering from the pandemic, stronger ethics in city government, fighting crime, supporting our police, and fighting racism.
MESSAGING: Messages that resonated with respondents as making them more likely to vote for a candidate include messages around a candidate who: will focus on quality of life and strong basics (like roads, school and police) to attract new business and growth, will be an advocate for taxpayers as our city struggles with the economic impact of the pandemic, has experience managing budgets during a difficult economy, will support resources for law enforcement, who understands the issues currently facing our city regarding racism and oppression, will focus on getting taxpayers more for their money, and will focus on basics (like fixing potholes, improving parks, and strengthening police and fire protection).
Additional messages that resonated, but not as strongly, include messaging around a candidate who: has experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets, is a consensus builder, and one who voted against frivolous spending as an appointee to a city commission.
Messages that respondents ranked more in the middle (somewhat more likely / somewhat less likely) or were indifferent, include messaging around candidates who: lived their whole life in North Dallas and truly understands the community, volunteers on the board of their Neighborhood Association or Homeowners Association, who’s a developer that has led successful development projects in our community, and one who dedicates their time to serving on various civic and nonprofit boards across the city.
